IKZ is a collaborative quartet composed of Chicago experimental music expats—Kevin Davis on cello and electronics, Toby Summerfield on guitar, Chris Dammann on double bass, and John Nekratz on drums. This show will be in support of their new album on Amalgam, I Saw the Cryptic Problem of my Generation Destroyed. Bridging free jazz and post-metal, their music is a propulsive, ecstatic mix of noise and improvised sound.
Mai Sugimoto is a saxophonist, composer, and active member of Chicago’s jazz and improvisational music scene. “A compelling performer” with “dry-champagne tone and lyrical lines” (Chicago Tribune), Sugimoto draws inspiration from her upbringing in Japan and her roots in jazz to compose and perform from her unique multicultural experience. Her solo set at Constellation will explore sounds and textures of alto saxophone, flute, percussion, toys, and field recordings—sometimes simultaneously.
