Lupe Fiasco, born Wasalu Muhammad Jaco, is an American rapper and record producer. He began his rapping career in junior high school and joined a group called Da Pak several years later. He then met rapper Jay-Z, who helped him sign a record deal with Atlantic Records. Prior to releasing an album, Lupe Fiasco released the single "Kick, Push," as well as several mixtapes, and even made an appearance on Kanye West's hit track "Touch the Sky." His debut album, “Food & Liquor” was an instant hit, peaking at the No. 8 spot on the Billboard 200 chart and earning the rapper three Grammy nominations."Daydreamin'" featuring Jill Scott won the award for Best Urban/Alternative Performance. A highly conceptualized sophomore album, “The Cool,” was released in late 2007. Gold sales certification and four additional Grammy nominations followed. The lead single "Superstar" became his first hit to appear on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Last year, Lupe released Egyptian-themed mixtape “Pharaon Height,” which experimented with different sounds and beats. It features the tracks “Valleys,” “Kings” and “Pyramid.”
