About NIA & The Chill Room Band

Website/ FB/ IG/ YouTube/ Spotify/ Apple Music

She was born in Queens, New York to Trinidadian parents. She started songwriting at the age of 5 under the influence of Sade, Michael Jackson, Bob Marley and Stevie Wonder; including genres such as Calypso and Soca. By her junior year of high school, she was already cutting her teeth as a music producer; this was at the same time she started to find her authentic voice.

Primus lived in Trinidad for a few years during her childhood. She eventually moved back to New York, then to Pennsylvania; later attending Shippensburg University. During her time there, NIAstarted to perform locally and collaborate with other local artists; in her senior year, she created her record label, Chill Room Records.
After moving to Philadelphia, NIA assembled her live backing band, The Chill Room Band. With her 6-piece band, she has graced many stages displaying somber sounds accompanied by enchanting arrangements. Her latest single, "Distant Colors,’ has since become a staple of her live performances.

Amelia Vandergast at A&R Factory said: "For anyone that has struggled to keep their head above water in the depth of their emotional intelligence, Distant Colors is more than resonant. The shimmering melodies paired with the steady canter of the kicking downtempo percussion props up NIA's vocals as they work through the lyrics that stand as a testament to her empathy and versatility."

About OJ Mountain

Website/ FB/ IG/ Twitter/ YouTube/ Spotify/ Apple Music

OJ Mountain is a indie hip-hop artist and saxophonist from Boston, MA. His old school inspired flows matched with his abstract and jazzy instrumentals pair for a refreshing combo of fresh and authentic music. He is conceptually invested in the medium of collage: both sonically and visually. He includes snippets from old sci-fi movies, obscure TV shows, and miscellaneous vocal samples to create atmosphere in his tracks. Due to being inspired by jazz and 90’s hip-hop, OJ works his saxophone playing into his web of complex lyrics to form a style unique to himself.
OJ performs with a band: one that is forged from the depths of musical hunger, and fueled by the aspiration to tell a story through jazz. They are a drummer, a bassist, a guitarist, a pianist, and a trumpeter.

About Huey, the Cosmonaut

Website/ IGYouTube/ Spotify/ Apple Music

My name is Huey! I was raised and shaped in a city called Rockford, Illinois. I reside and makes music in Philadelphia when I'm not on the road somewhere. I'd like to think that my music exists in the space between emo, R&B, bedroom pop, lofi hip hop and jazz. Some of the themes in my music include a focus on loneliness, traveling, nostalgia, melancholy, everyday sensations, black history, renewal, growth, cartoons, comic books, the cosmos and imaginary worlds. I feel that I'm constantly caught between different worlds in my personal life and musical aspirations. Through my music, I seek to unite some of those things. All of my music is produced from the bedroom. I've been playing with a band recently though.

About Plaze

Website / FB / IG Twitter

Plaze began with a problem. When co-founder and advanced drummer Jamie Mallia hauled his drums to jam with a guitar player he met in college, he was excited about the music they might make together. But after taking the time to set up their gear and start playing, Jamie realized there was a significant mismatch in skill level. Simply put, this was not a good session.

This uncomfortable experience planted the seed: a music-based social networking app for finding musicians to meet up and jam with. Now, two years and many lessons later, the core of Jamie’s original idea remains. But we’ve expanded our vision beyond a vetting tool, to an all-purpose solution for musicians and creatives looking to make the most of their scene. As we’ve waited for live shows to return, we’ve been lucky enough to chat with a diverse group of Philly musicians, freelancers and small businesses for our spotlight blog series. And we’ve been hard at work developing our app, with the goal of launching in time for the reopening of venues.

Plaze’s infrastructure is tailored to assessing compatibility at a glance. While there’s a chance you’ll find your ideal collaborator on a bigger platform like Facebook or Reddit, we’re willing to bet it’ll take a whole lot more time and effort, and more than a little luck. There’s an enormous pool of DIY talent out there, but no good way to drill down to what you’re looking for on larger platforms that aren’t built with musicians and creatives in mind. Plaze is a curated, music-based platform featuring a robust profile functionality, a map view with nearby collaborators a click away, and the ability to chat with fellow musicians and creatives directly in-app. No noise, just music. So why waste valuable time and energy sifting through all the possibilities on larger sites? We’re here to give you that time back.

Of course, our app is only the beginning of your creative journey. Community is at the crux of musicianship, and we’re giving you the tools to find your niche. You’re the one with the talent and the drive to make your mark. So don’t wait to make your voice heard -- find your home in the music scene today!
