**THE SWITCH HITTERS**

Wil Blades (Dr. Lonnie Smith, Adam Deitch Quartet), Nigel Hall (Lettuce), Robert “Sput” Searight (Snarky Puppy, Ghost Note), and Nate Werth (Snarky Puppy, Ghost Note) will bring their newest side-project, Switch Hitters, to Boom Boom Room for the band’s TRIUMPHANT RETURN  shows after debuting here in early 2018. The newly formed band gets its name because, as Nigel Hall explained on Facebook, “We like to commandeer each other’s instruments when the spirit moves us, hence Switch Hitters.”

The Switch Hitters’ rhythm section is locked down by the formidable percussion duo of Sput and Nate Werth. Both have become icons of the modern drumming and percussion world, with both pioneering musicians earning critical acclaim—including Grammy Awards—for their work with Snarky Puppy, and, more recently, their new project Ghost-Note. Nigel Hall, the fan-favorite Lettuce vocalist and keyboardist, adds a soulful punch to the lineup, bringing his commanding and charismatic energy to the band. Wil Blades, the dynamic, virtuosic jazz-organist, rounds out the Switch Hitters lineup.

In early 2018, The Switch Hitters made their debut in San Francisco, tearing up the iconic Boom Boom Room with a wild performance that wowed audiences. Following up this debut performance, The Switch Hitters headed to New Orleans in the spring, offering up a triumphant show at One Eyed Jack’s during Jazz Fest. While the group’s past performances are limited, the band has more than proved itself with its pedigree lineup, featuring renowned artists.

As Werth noted, “Playing some of my favorite music with some of my favorite musicians. We are grown men having a blast on stage, and feeling SOULFUL! Every show is filled with surprises because we just follow the flow and do what we feel.”

About the Hitters...

NIGEL HALL
Soul provider Nigel Hall is in many ways an artist who needs no introduction. An in-demand sideman, he’s built a mighty foundation of funk over the years onstage and in the studio with collaborators including the Warren Haynes Band,Jon Cleary, Soulive, Oteil Burbridge and Roosevelt Collier, Ledisi, the SoulRebels, Lettuce and countless others. Legions of fans are already well in the know about Hall’s copious keyboard chops and powerful vocal style. But even to them, his Feel Music/Round Hill debut solo album will be a revelation – a confirmation that Hall has stepped out front and center into a creative space to call his own.

ROBERT "SPUT" SEARIGHT
After a decade of relentless touring and recording in all but complete obscurity, the Texas-bred/New York-based quasi-collective suddenly found itself held up by the press and public as one of the major figures in the jazz world. But as the category names for all three of the band’s Grammy®awards would indicate (Best R&B Performance in 2014, Best Contemporary InstrumentalAlbum in 2016 and 2017), Snarky Puppy isn’t exactly a jazz band. It’s not a fusion band, and it’s definitely not a jam band. It’s probably best to take Nate Chinen of the New York Times’ advice, as stated in an online discussion about the group, to “take them for what they are, rather than judge them for what they’re not.”

NATE WERTH
As the undeniable secret weapon of Snarky Puppy,
Nate Werth is a Grammy Award winning percussionist who has worked with respected artists such as Snarky Puppy, Lalah Hathaway, David Crosby, Q-Tip, Screaming Headless Torsos, The Lee Boys, Myron Butler and Levi, and The Metropole Orchestra. His approach to diverse musical styles, as well as an inventive use of traditional and non-traditional percussion, defines his unique sound. In addition to working as a side man, Mr. Werth co-leads a drum and percussion project, Ghost-Note, with world renown musician Robert "Sput" Searight. Ghost-Note's infectious grooves and unparalleled musicality captures this duo's seamless rhythmical connection, delicately crafted over the past eight years.

WIL BLADES
No less a jazz organ authority than the legendary Dr. Lonnie Smith has called Wil Blades “the future,” anointing him the heir apparent to “carry on the legend [and] the legacy of the organ, of the B-3.” Blades shoulders that responsibility with nonchalant virtuosity and infectious groove on his second recording, FieldNotes (out August 19 from The Royal Potato Family). The album’s nine songs report back from the rich incubator that is the road, with pieces written from snippets recorded at sound checks, gigs and jam sessions—field recordings of the jazz trio in its natural habitat. On his first full trio outing, Blades is joined by guitarist Jeff Parker (Tortoise, Joey DeFrancesco, Joshua Redman) and drummer Simon Lott (Charlie Hunter, Will Bernard), both musicians who shareBlades’ grounding in tradition and urge to push it forward.

plus:

*GALAXE*
Nick Werth offers up an inspiring display of creativity with his solo project, GALAXE. While simultaneously juggling the producer/MC roles, live beats and positive mantras unite to form a unique blend of conscious HipHop and Electronica. To make matters more interesting, Nick delivers the GALAXE sound via Xylosynth: a futuristic beat machine with limitless possibilities.

Galaxe bio:

"Nick Werth (Yak Attack) serves up hip hop-inspired beats with his solo project, Galaxe. What makes this incredibly unique is that he does it all live using a futuristic vibraphone. Based in the PacificNorthwest, the Galaxe sound is deeply inspired by nature and psychedelic experience, with nods to J Dilla and Flying Lotus.
