The musical French ambassador and rising star jazz chanteuse has captivated the New York jazz and cabaret club scenes, most recently in The Line Up, Susie Mosher’s award-winning variety show at the Birdland Jazz Club. On March 3 at 7 pm, Margot returns to The Cutting Room (44 E. 32nd St.) to celebrate the recent release of her ZOHO Jazz label album; a disc that has been zooming up prominent jazz music charts (landing in the Top 10 on a couple), and receiving wide-spread airplay on alt-jazz stations. Deuce France, Sweet France can be streamed and downloaded on all major platforms.With Patrick Sean Brennan and Tal Yahalom on guitar, Alec Safy on bass, Grammy Award-winner Linus Wyrsch on clarinet, Ben Silashi on drums, and Loic Da Silva on accordion, Margot Sergent will present for the first time in concert her own compelling original compositions, along with stirring renditions of classics by Piaf, Charles Aznavour, and Charles Trenet, all employing her mesmerizing voice and unique jazz harp language.With her classical background in France as a harp player, Margot has graced the most prestigious stages worldwide, including Carnegie Hall, Wiener Musikverein, and L'Opéra Comique. Transitioning briefly through pop music, she served as the touring harp player and backing vocalist for French singer/songwriter and #1 selling artist Nolwenn Leroy, before falling in love with jazz while collaborating with the legendary saxophonist Archie Shepp.After receiving a grant and attending the prestigious Berklee College of Music, where she honed her songwriting and vocal skills, Margot took New York by storm and established herself as the Parisian sweetheart of the city. She has held residencies in hot jazz spots such as Jules Bistro and Club Bonafide, and participated in French official events with Air France Run and Library Albertine. In 2019, Margot made her highly-praised debut at New York’s prestigious Birdland with her signature show she wrote and arranged, The Edith Piaf Experience, and has since played sold out shows at renowned New York venues such as 54 Below and The Cutting Room. At eight, she appeared in one of France’s most popular national TV shows. She received a “Performance Award “at the exclusive Ecole Normale/Alfred Cortot University, where world famous composer Michel Damase was among the jury members . . . She has participated in tours with Archie Shepp’s protegee, Monica Passos, and number-one pop selling artist in France Nolwenn Leroy . . . Noticed by famed jazz pianist Kirk Lightsey and Pierre Boussaguet (bass player for Michel Legrand) during a jam performance at the Jazz Gallery of Berlinval, Margot was encouraged by her mentors to get a more complete jazz education . . . Before moving from Paris to New York City in 2015, Margot attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, studying songwriting and jazz improvisation, and vocal performance with Maggie Scott, former vocal teacher to Diana Krall and Esperanza Spalding . . .
